He is a professor of food technology with over 24 years of experiences in teaching and learning and current Director of the Centre for Development of Academic Excellence, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He is currently responsible to design and run a professional development programme in technology-enhanced learning and student-centred learning for the academic staff. He is also involved as a trainer for numerous workshops especially on using technology in teaching and learning. He is now leading a project to develop Open Educational Resources (OER) for the university and so far has succeeded to produce more than 20 course-wares. He is also a co-Chairman of the Technical Committee for Malaysian MOOCs initiative, a project by the Ministry of Education. Dr Karim’s expertise has won him the inaugural USM Excellence Educator Award and he was also the recipient of the prestigious National Academic Award for teaching. He has published more than 130 publications in international citation-indexed journals, books and encyclopedia chapters.
